Our staff team is friendly, helpful and motivated to care for your children
Our staff team is friendly, helpful and motivated to care for your children. Many have been with us for a long time and have a wealth of experience; we pride ourselves in a higher percentage of qualified staff than is required. We are committed to ongoing learning and development and all team members regularly attend courses and training sessions. We also meet regularly to share best practice and to learn from each other.
When you join the nursery, you and your child will be introduced to one of the team members as your 'key worker' who will have specific responsibility for the care and wellbeing of your child. All members of the team are committed to looking after your child and to developing varied and interesting activities to make life at Wren a happy and rewarding time.
Penny and Phil
Mum and Dad (and now Granny and Grandad) to all, this husband and wife team have put their hearts and souls into the nursery since its opening in 1992. Well known for their relaxed and open attitudes, Penny and Phil are passionate about providing the best quality childcare. They are so committed to the nursery, they have literally rebuilt it, from foundations to roof tiles, spending all of their waking hours to ensure that the new build is the perfect ‘home fom home’ for your little ones. After raising her own 4 children and countless foster children, Penny continues to manage ‘from the shop floor’ and can be found under a heap of children or in the kitchen preparing home cooked meals on a daily basis.
Baby Room Team
Jessica Orme manages are largest team at nursery due to the staff to child ratios; Zoe Cleeton-Pritchett, Raj Kang, Lyndsey Shaw, Rachael Thomson, Anne-Marie Thornicroft, Katie Tidmarsh, Stephanie Tew, Julie Quilter and Amrit Virdee.
Toddler Room Staff
Joanne Judge, our ‘time to talk’™ champion manages the Toddler room with colleagues Katie Evans, Aimie Luckett, Leanne Biddle and Rosie Birch, Bon Thompson and Cat Wainwright.
Alexis Parkinson is our overall Nursery Deputy manager and manager of our Pre-school team, with colleagues Sam Manderston (Senco and Safeguarding Lead) and Lauren Habbits.
Vetting of Team Members
Qualifications are checked for all new applicants for staff positions, we conduct an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Scheme check for safety and we always follow up on two references.
Leadership and Management
The nursery manager (Penny), Office and HR manager (Thea) and the deputy manager (Alexis) are available to parents, children and staff at all times. Some of our Room Leaders and keyworkers work part time to allow them time for their own families or college training but we operate a 'buddy' system so your child will always have a named person with them. We have an 'open door' policy and you are welcome to drop in to see your child at any time during the day.
