Pre School Juniors

Children must be taught how to think, not what to think

We believe that within this room, children are at their most curious.
Resources and activities are set out to encourage children to ask questions “What is that? what are you doing and why?”.

This room evolved to provide a transitional period before children move into Preschool, the final year of nursery before school. Our exceptional staff team recognised that there were benefits to be had in closing the gap between 2-year-old independence and nearly school-ready 4-year-olds.
Preschool Junior Room
The Preschool Junior Room adjoins the Toddler Room, allowing for blended sessions, and giving children the opportunity to transition either when developmentally ready or when they turn 3.  Comfortably accommodating 17 children with a shared large garden, it has its own bathroom area with child-sized toilets and sinks.

Preschool Junior Environment

The Juniors enjoy the same environment as the younger children; small world, role play, construction, and creative areas. However, within the progressive curriculum, resources are more advanced and offer more challenge. Children have access to glue and paints at all times and an exciting discovery zone to further promote curiosity and investigation.

Junior Curriculum
As our curriculum continues to be sequenced and progressive, resources get smaller to provide challenges and build fine motor skills. There are increased opportunities for maths activities and exploring numerals and letters. Group time encourages conversations and discussions to take place about a story, the children’s interests, topics, or occasions.

The home corner is enhanced with realistic resources. There is self-access to resources for anything creative. The curriculum recognises that at this age, children begin to form friendships and learn to play together, extending games and listening to each other’s ideas.
Junior Team
The ratio of staff to children for 3-year-olds increases to 1 practitioner to 8 children; as with any transitions, if younger children joined the room, ratios would change to the younger child. At the heart of our Junior room, our loyal staff have over 15 years of childcare experience.
Junior's Outdoors

Within the Preschool and Junior garden, outdoor ride on tractors and bikes promote gross motor skills, with opportunities for climbing and both team and independent play.

Children have access to sand, water and lots of other resources.

Quality Care, Budget-Friendly: A Parent's Trusted Choice

Affordable Childcare Childcare

As parents/carers you may be able to order childcare vouchers from your employers as part of your salary. By choosing to receive a proportion of your salary in childcare vouchers, you could save as much as £2,134.00 pa on the cost of your childcare. This is because childcare vouchers are non-taxable and exempt from National Insurance Contributions, up to a limit of £243.00 per parent/carer per month. Ask your employer which voucher scheme they use; it may be Busy Bees, Accor, Parent Bond, Care 4 or their own scheme.

Let us know at Wren who you will be using, and we can give you their telephone number and our Nursery ID. Once they are set up they are easy to use and very popular.

You may wish to alternatively set up your Tax Free Childcare account; Tax-Free Childcare is an online government service for parents to make payments to their childcare providers. For every £8 a parent pays into their Childcare account, they'll add an extra £2 to your Childcare Account.

Parents can then use that money to make childcare payments direct to their childcare provider's bank account.
